Four African countries are set to run out of vital emergency food supplies in the next three months, putting the lives of millions of malnourished children at risk, new research has found.
The analysis, which was carried out by the charity Save the Children and shared exclusively with The Independent, were described as “unthinkable” by Moazzam Malik, CEO for Save the Children UK.
I want to preface this comment with the statement that obviously no human being should be malnourished and if aid is required then it is a moral duty to provide.
For these countries In the long term, it seems that the economic aid etc. completely wrecks their local economy and traps them into a cycle of relying on further aid. Its not their fault, but clearly its not a sustainable plan either.
This.
The only charity that works is cash, it allows the local econmy to get started ,people buy food off local farmers etc. Some infrastructure eg trains crossing countries allow moving food or livestock from drought striken areas etc but maintenace inevitability becomes an issue.
Buying corn etal off comparatively well off American farmers is just welfare for said farmers.
Of course you always have corruption skimming off the top, stong men controlling water well access etc etc.
