    Nature can be brutal. Beautiful regardless – maybe even beautiful because it is brutal, at times.

    Those wing feathers look so long!

      It is their balance of survival. The owls rely on these small creatures, and we see owl populations rise and fall along with those of the rodents.

      Meanwhile the ecosystem also couldn’t deal with unimpeded rodent populations. They reproduce quickly, frequently, and in high numbers due to them being prey animals.

      This photo is nature finding its equilibrium. It’s a microcosm of something too large for us to see otherwise. Our primate brains can handle the complexity of something like this and take understanding that we are part of something greater than ourselves. Or at least that’s how I’m feeling about it. I’m no Socrates or anything. 😅
