The single page is the biggest advantage of my eink reader (next to size and weight, of course) compared to a book. I can read comfortably in so many more positions. Does anyone actually want this form factor?
If it was foldable without a break in the middle with bezels it’d be interesting as it’s basically be 1 screen. But that is not likely in the realms of what can be offered here.
I use a larger eink tablet from Boox and like to have it in landscape showing 2 pages at a time. Its a preference visually as it feels even more like a book, and a minor benefit with less page turning, but still light enough to hold with one hand. It’s hard to explain why but I much prefer having all that screen space and 2 pages laid out in front of me.
But this design with 2 entirely separate screens doesn’t really capture the benefits of that. It’s mimicking a book so may be more comfortable for some people like the landscape reader is for me? But It does feel redundant, and a larger reader in landscape is much more versatile for other tasks like browsing the Internet or reading an a4 pdf in portrait mode. This dual screen design loses those benefits.
I agree the form factor doesn’t make sense.
That was my first thought. You can only look at one page at a time, right?
Like, if all ebook readers had this form factor, I would pay extra for a single page reader (the current form).
It could be good for manga. Some have great full page spreads that lose a lot of impact viewing one at a time.
The gap between the pages is way too wide for that. In the digital age, most full page spreads in manga are much better viewed on a single landscape screen that is comparable to an open book in size and format. Even if there is a need for a gap between both panels, you can easily add one without needing two screens.
