China to limit acceleration to 100 km/h https://www.carscoops.com/2025/11/china-plans-to-limit-car-acceleration-at-startup/ @cars
The legislation limits the time taken to reach 100 km/h or 62 mph to be no less than 5 seconds.
Well 100 km/h is a speed, not an acceleration, but if they’ve got a problem with cars that reach 100 in 5 seconds, I’d gladly buy one that reaches 140 instead. Problem solved.
@7uWqKj clearly if you can accelerate to reach a velocity of 140 in km/h in 5 seconds you can also reach 100 km/h in 5 seconds by accelerating less quickly.
But that would be illegal, right?
It’s no different to cars that do this for stability control. Although stability control tries to kill me on a daily basis, and it’s safer to turn it off.
And 5sec to 100 is pretty quick anyway. Most cars these days take 10.
