I made telegram and i wanted to be sure Its safe and usable for chatting. Id like to give It between the contacts but idk since It has my phone Number and i put the @ in my profile. In the setting my Number Is hidden to others but idk ik not sure if i should use It or Just keep It for some groups.
What do you think?
I hope I didn’t disturb
Have a great day:3
No. Signal would be best in my opinion
Ok ty
It’s fine as long as you understand what you’re using. If you’re handling state secrets, probably shouldn’t put those on telegram. If you’re handling your grandmother’s pie recipe, you’re probably fine.
Oki
It’s very robust and has better open source clients than, say, Discord, which is hot garbage
Yeah, I use telegram app but what other clients are there?
I’ll make a list one second. It’s way too late at night to use my brain
Me frfr
Arent alternative clients disallowed by their TOS?
Maybe? Doesn’t make much of a difference. It’s the best of the blobs
You mean i cannot follow Tos and I won’t get brutally mauled?
As far as I know the only issue is that you need to keep getting the code from the original telegram client because they won’t validate your account the via phone or email.
https://rys.io/en/179.html Telegram is indistinguishable from an FSB honeypot
You can use it as long as you consider all conversations on there, including direct messages, as public and readable by any three letter agency out there. Telegram is not e2e encrypted, which means Telegram LLC can read all your messages and share them as they see fit.
Also remember that they have your phone number and IP address
In short, planning a night out with friends is probably fine, coordinating a protest is probably not.
Oh no yeah not for that kind of serious planning.
I would have wanted to use it I’d people that .meet me online wanted to text me idk
I’ve been using it for ages with my friends and I’m not convinced about its privacy benefits compared to WhatsApp or Signal.
Also if I have my @ on I frequently get messages from complete strangers offering me ‘jobs’. I’ve also been added to some random groups without my consent. Seems Telegram has put some of these functionalities behind a premium subscription.
So safe? Not sure. Usable? Depending on your contact list there is a use case.
Ok ty
It’s categorically worse for privacy than signal. The latter is at least e2e encrypted. Probably also worse than WhatsApp, they also claim to be e2e encrypted, but it’s less certain because the apps are closed-source.
Added to group can be restricted without premium, but it is stupid that message from strangers can’t.
I also mean the other way around. Users who have premium can circumvent your settings.
Nope, you can’t turn off that everyone can message you unless you have premium.
