She added that nowadays it is becoming increasingly difficult for a country like Moldova to survive and exist as a democracy and a sovereign state.

"As President of the Republic of Moldova, I understand that there is no majority in favor of unification with Romania, but there is a majority that supports accession to the EU, and we are acting in that direction. This is a much more realistic goal and helps us protect our sovereignty,” Sandu explained.

    It’s sad that circumstances might force them to abandon their independence. But it looks like the only realistic way for rapid moving to the EU and NATO.
