Reading needs to be ingrained before school even starts, I was reading on my own at 4, was well ahead of all the other students throughout all of schooling in reading comprehension and speed despite learning disabilities.
If you don’t learn to enjoy it then you will dread having to do it for homework and stumble through having to read out loud in class in front of other students.
she was a special needs child and they just kept giving her a pass to push her along denying her long them support she needed for herself. School did not look out for her interests.
