Thank fuck the steam deck is user repairable and you can buy replacement parts. That’s what I call pro-consumer.
Rip that screen
i’ve repaired it myself since, i just posted this here bcs rule
Can you fix me next? 🥺
Spay or neuter?
Oh, no, I was referring to crippling mental illness, not my balls. Please don’t hurt my balls.
Don’t worry, we only need one of them for the ceremony.
Wait, what ceremony? OwO
Don’t think they make an iFixit kit for that, but I’ll give it a go. Who’s your parts supplier?
My parents custom-built me but were limited by the available hardware, so I usually take whatever is in the parts bin and fits. Do you think doing a major upgrade, tearing everything out, and replacing it with quality parts might be worth it?
Nah. Might end up with driver soup by the end of it but no need to yank all the parts. Custom builds work just fine with a little TLC.
Mobilesentrix… wait, please don’t make me think about work
Need.
I will love you for the rest of my life if you give me that.
The rule demands sacrifice
That’s a nice counter top tho
How hard was the fix?
It took a while, but no part of the repair was ever difficult, except perhaps taking off and putting on the new screen.
Very nice!
steam deck is kill
no.
Is chance to upgrade to OLED
I also wanted to do this when my cat sent by Steam Deck flying across the room and cracked the screen
Oh dang. Well anti glare at least.
Shh, you meant upgrade to the OLED model :p
I mean, you can just replace the screen
NO
At least the replacement + tools is only about $70!
Perfect opportunity to do a shell swap too, since it’s more or less the same procedure.
F
This is why I always say to keep a screen protector on your Steam Deck, it can reduce the likelihood that the screen will be shattered in this manner. Plus if you have the standard model you gain the benefits of an anti-glare screen with an Anti-glare screen protector.
I had one, besides, I dropped it down a flight of stairs, I think it would’ve been screwed regardless lol
Ah, yeah. That’ll definitely do it. Not that much that can be done to protect it from that (maybe a case like the dbrand Killswitch would save it, not sure, not about to test it on mine).
At least it’s relatively easy to repair, and I’ve also heard valve will accept repairs as well.
