Personally, we just are polyamorous and found that monogamy doesn’t work for us and neither does others controlling who we can like and how we can like them.
This is why we went more the solo-polyamory and relationship anarchy route, so whilst we do care about how others feel we won’t allow them to control who we date or become friends with etc.
So whilst we will inform people of what is going on and listen to their concerns, they don’t get to tell us what we are allowed to do with others and vice versa. Our consent extends as far as what effects them directly (this does also extend to if people try to mess with us to try to be only their partner, or make us spend time with only them despite what we’ve agreed). We don’t believe in hierarchy, only temporary priorities.
We tell you all this only to show another way of how it can work 🙂.
Still, we hope that it works out for you, if you do go any type of polyamorous route.
The way I see it in myself is this: it’s very similar to friendships. I have stronger and weaker friendships, and those constantly change, but there’s not a hierarchy of friendships. And being friends with one person shouldn’t mean I’m not allowed to be friends with another, nor vice versa.
Yes, exactly. Partners aren’t more important than friends to us either, which is why we went the relationship anarchy route explictly as we never liked that even if partners were not seen as more or less important than each other (in some forms of polyamory) there was still between friends and partners and we couldn’t get our head around that mentality, and so we didn’t.
