      In every instance… go with the breed who just isn’t going to ever turn on you.

      Chihuahuas are better protectors than pit bulls because

      • they are remarkably good “alarm” dogs
      • they could not eat your hand off if you were dead and not resisting. They can’t accidentally snap and kill y ou!

        A Chow Chow is the only dog that ever bit me, completely unprovoked, and I required stitches afterwards. I’ve only met one Chihuahua that didn’t look crazed and try to attack.

        I’d say it maybe depends more on individual temperaments of the dogs than it does a sweeping generalization of an entire breed.

    I like the historic versions of dogs vs the modern ones. The modern versions of dogs are a lot less healthy, and it shows. :/

      Yeah this is quite true, which is why I am proud of the breeders and shops out there that now advertise that they are mixing their purebred dogs to some degree with dogs of other races, making dogs that are 1/4 something else, 3/4 Golden Retriever, or some such.

      This is how it should be done to make the breeds collectively healthier by consistently injecting more genetic diversity.
