Explanation: Roman domination of the Mediterranean Sea was so total that, eventually, the Romans simply took to calling it Mare Nostrum - literally, ‘Our Sea’.
But calling the Romans socialist in any way shape or form is quite a stretch.

Clearly the correct name is the English Channel and we’ll very carefully avoid mentioning the Gulf Of Mexico.
