Is this list AI slop? Just skimming the list, Andrew Jackson obviously didn’t sign at 9 years old. Henry Clinton and Charles Cornwallis were both British generals. We all know who King George III was. Martha Washington and Abigail Adams were women…

Definitely. I googled it, and the ai search result said: “Andrew Jackson was not yet born when the Declaration of Independence was signed; he was nine years old in 1776, the year it was signed. He was too young to be a signer…”

Ai is totally confused on the subject

None of these people have Eric Adams’s swag. None of them will be going to Istanbul to do body shots off an underaged war refugee. None of them are taking their salaries in Bitcoin. None of them want “New York State of Mind” playing from rescue drones paroling Coney Island.

Is this really what our beautiful, bountiful, bootilicious city wants? Are we going to elect a bunch of 30-something civics nerds?

    Not on my watch!

Lemmy seems to think this election is already in the bag based entirely off of echo chambers saying he has overwhelming support. It’s like you people have learned nothing from the 2024 election. I would love if Mamdani would win, but my money is on him losing pretty badly. Things don’t get better anymore.

What has lead you to think he is likely to lose?

Are you more plugged into lib media, and they’re doing “actually potential democrat voters love Republicans, so mandami is unelectable”?

Long, long, LONG history of Americans rejecting socialism of any type, even in heavily liberal areas. And, from what I’ve seen, while he is leading in the polls, the majority of his support is from 18-29 year olds, which is a demographic that you can dependably rely on to not show up to vote. It’s been the same story the last 1500 times these kinds of things have played out. Why the hell would it be any different this time?

95% of those “socialists” were liberals who had fuckall to offer their constituents, but were branded socialists anyway. 99% of the remaining 5% were ratfucked by the dems and dem-alligned media, as we are seeing right now, live.

Zohran’s up by double digits and he’s only gaining ground day by day.

      Things don’t get better anymore.

Trump still has plenty of time to send tanks into Lower Manhattan and declare Gracie Mansion a Whites Only Zone. But from an election perspective? Dude’s got this.

What (I hope) we learned from the 2024 election is that the actual candidate matters, and that Democrats can’t win by running to the center and playing it “safe”.

Well thats just straight up pessimism without anything backing it other than depression.

Its ok to be worried that the worst can happen but just accepting it is not helpful. Things happen and change all the time. Better and worse.

Learned anything? I am learning stuff all the time. I just use that to adjust my view of the world not act smug about feeling bad about the world. There is no lesson that the world only gets worse.

I expect I’ll be holding up better than you.

Well, I’m here to eat crow. I’ve grown to just assume the worst will always happen and genuinely did not think something positive could occur. While some BS could still happen, I will admit that maybe things aren’t always hopeless and I was wrong for believing that to be the case.

Reagan was a 2nd rate actor who was most famous for playing 2nd banana to a literal chimpanzee.

But… Reagan was involved in politics for a long time before he became president. Even before he was governor of California he had his hands in some political roles before he gave up acting.
