If you ask these cultures why they perform the practice they all say that they were emulating royalty and the ruling class.
Ummm. How do you “ask these cultures” anything, if the practice predates writing? Do these researchers have a time machine we don’t know about?
They have oral histories, and some of the cultures still exist and practice headbinding today
I mean, that’s basically what archaeology is.
