<How I Became King by Eating Monsters> Volume 3 - I don’t know why I continue to read this series. It’s so incredibly contrived. MC complains every second paragraph about how the people around him always misunderstand him, but then goes on and gives vague commands like “You know what I want you to do, right?” every time. And then, when they obviously misinterpreted this command, he complained again. And it’s a one-trick pony where that very same plot structure of vague command->misinterpretation->complaint is everything that’s happening with infinite repetition. The only thing that breaks it up a bit is the contrived (and unfunny) running gag about MC only getting to eat monster meat even though he wants normal meat. He’s jumping through hoops instead of just once saying something simple like “I want to eat normal meat”. That stupid running gag is repeated just as much.

<Flung into a New World? Time to Lift the 200-Year Curse!> Volume 1 - Really annoying writing style with MC’s disjumbled thoughts written out. It gets better in the latter half of the volume, but the first is really rough.

<In Another World with Household Spells> Volume 2 - The shotacon-ness is turned way down. It’s actually enjoyable for the most part.

    Murderbot Diaries!

After 18months slogging through “Main Street” (Totally worth it) MBD is like picking up a favourite series at school - too hard to put down and immediately rewarding.

This week I’ve been reading Konosuba! It’s a lot of fun, but tbh it’s mostly making me want to re-watch the anime. It was a really good adaptation.

It’s one of the few instances where I actually prefer the anime adaptation over the lightnovel source.
