      Absolutely.
Probably every Lemmy Client will have a PEGI-16 warning/restriction.

to those wondering “why Github?” because it’s not about protecting 16 year olds doing pull requests it’s about getting YOUR data/IDs. They don’t know whose under 16 or over 16 to access said sites so they need the IDs of EVERYONE. that’s all this is. it has nothing to do with protecting kids.

If I was a government or some firm that harvets Data I would absolutely drool at potentially having a source that is Github to get said info. I would LOVE to harvest info of developers, coders, etc.

Yep, they get your ID and can associate your account and activity to your person. These are always anti-privacy laws, not “protect the children” laws. That’s just what they say to get people to give up their freedoms.

How about we just stick them all in airtight lead-lined boxes? Then they’ll be truly safe.

Is Australia trying to out-OSA the UK here? Steam is a fucking store front, GitHub is a place where you put Code, and Under Sixteens shouldn’t be allowed on Dating Apps anyway. What the fuck?

By that logic the following sites are social media sites:

        • Wikipedia
        • OpenStreetMap
        • News sites with comment sections
        • Duolingo
        • Amazon

God help you if they agegate Wikipedia because that’s the point you bring out the pitchforks.

I mean, Steam does have a large social aspect as well. Community content is often aimed at the 16+ crowd. Hell, I’ve been called the n-word by 11 year olds multiple times on Steam. Denying that Steam has social media is just disingenuous.

The comments here seem to be missing a salient point.

In order to determine if a user is under 16, you need to determine that for every single user … including you!

This means that your personal data will be harvested in order to determine if you are over 16 or not.

Can we keep me safe from Pinterest? I would really like to exclude it from my search results on a permanent basis without having to explicitly filter it in my query.

Doesn’t it already include YouTube and TikTok?
