I’ve not seen the anime, but I’ve read the manga. And I believe the anime follows the manga a bit closer thanks to the artstyle and likely being easier to present the events. It still shows her complete denial of being gay, though technically you could also interpret it as her denial of relationships at all especially with the people she admires so much out of self-loathing, but she still tries to deny her feelings all the time.
