Honestly if they’re just in your backyard you should just leave them bee.
Depends where you are and what type of wasp. Where I live paper or mud wasps are usually natives and less aggressive so can be tolerated, but the European wasps are a pest species and more likely to sting you so should be removed.
no gasoline?
WD40 or similar, it messes they ability to fly. Easy ground targets.
We had some wasps make a nest inside a large pot in our yard. Boiled some soapy water and poured it into the pot at night. Took two tries but totally worked.
