The Completionist. Socials went private and any videos finished but unreleased had the artwork changed so it wasn’t obviously from the channel.

Some others that came to mind is ProJared with the sexts, but he eventually defended his side and continues to post new videos, and the controversy from the Nostalgia Critic group during the ChangeTheChannel campaign

Oof, watching The Completionist’s fall was an emotional rollercoaster. I liked the guy well enough and he seemed to be doing well right up until that unfortunate G4TV reboot.

Attached to the new G4TV was one Frosk, an e-sports commentator who was opinionated as all hell and boy, she would NOT let you forget it. Long story short, apropos of nothing, she had a spectacular meltdown on the channel and she did so by blaming fans for all kinds of things. The Completionist, along with all other members of the channel took a hit in subscribers on G$ and their respective channels simply through the virtue of being affiliated with Frosk. Not really their fault.

But THEN in 2023 it came to light that he was lying about donations to charity and really, that’s when I stopped following him completely. Kind of hard to defend that.

    James Somerton.

Basically got massively called out by Hbomberguy for plagiarism on every single video and I am pretty sure James just nuked the account and restarted his grift under an alt.

I know there was something fishy about that guy when I first saw him popping up in my shorts (that’s what she said), but I didn’t know it was as bad as it was.

Wait did something actually happen? I just remember people finally realizing he’s generally just a shitty person.

Well he turned out to be a lazy, lying, emotionally abusive, manipulative furry that uses his love interests for money, if that tells you something. Plenty of YouTube documentaries of comfortable length on the subject if you’re interested. It was quite enlightening. Absolutely disgusting human being, IMO. Instantly unsubscribed (again) when I saw these documentaries.

I had previously unsubbed from him because all his shorts of him acting like this overconfident life guru while live streaming got pretty old pretty quick. It became fake. Then I gave him another chance. I shouldn’t have done so.

You know what I mean? I feel like I can’t have any idols anymore these days. Not that he was, but still.

I guess there’s some weight to the whole “thou shalt not worship false idols”. It’s pretty good advice.

Toby Turner was pretty big in my eyes, but then there was some controversy of abuse or minors or something, I can’t remember. But he made me laugh so hard like not many YouTubers could, dude. His gameplay of that game with the dad on his bike with his kid in the back of the bike, my god. Those were the days.

Not a vlogger, but CarlH was a respected reddit user who had a long and successful series of C programming lessons on youtube. I remember going through some of his videos back in the day.

He was arrested for abusing and exploiting his own son for child pornography, and later commited suicide in jail. I guess you can’t fall much harder.

One of the many reddit posts about the story: https://www.reddit.com/r/UnresolvedMysteries/comments/upkjb7/carl_h_once_made_a_following_for_himself_online/

Oh thank goodness. Thought it was just me.

Youtube is pretty horrid now so I tend to stay away. Seems like its mostly made for ipad babies and boomers now.

I mean I’m in the same boat as this guy that I’ve never heard of these YouTubers and I’m on YouTube a decent amount. And the reason we think that we would hear about them is the question is who do you think have the largest downfall and you would imagine if somebody was YouTube famous that they would be known by quite a few people on here. Just goes to show you the amount of people that are subscribed doesn’t always reflect the actual number of people on YouTube. Pretty amazing

There are more than 50 million YouTube channels that upload new content each month and there are nearly 3 billion YouTube users, so the likelihood that you’ll intersect with any of them is rather slim.

It’s so crazy that 10 million subscribers is huge by YouTube standards but practically meaningless in the larger context.

Not really a YouTuber but I’ve always been curious what happened about a decade ago with Chris Ziegler from The Verge, who was an editor but then accepted a job at Apple on the side, and was then fired by both companies. He then disappeared entirely from the record and everyone got real quiet about it.

Oof, for me in my world, there have been so many unfortunately.

John Kuckian, Jaclyn Hill, Jeffree Star, and more recently Raw Beauty Kristi though she’s been in decline for a while.

Makeup Youtubers are something fucking else.
