I love saying “Gesundheit” instead of that cultish “Bless you” nonsense.
It’s been my go-to since I was a lad.
Well, I know just enough German to tell you that I’ve got some bad news for you…
Edit: good news, everyone, I’m a dumbass
Gesundheit is short for “Ich wünsche dir gute Gesundheit” (i wish you good health). No bad news there.
wait really? Crap, my bad. I guess about 1/3 of all the German I thought I knew was wrong.
Is it lupus? Oh god, it’s lupus, isn’t it?
Nah, lupus in German just means lupus
And I speak it fluently enough to know it means “wish you good health” as someone else has mentioned.
I kept saying “Gesundheit” every time someone sneezed when I was in Australia. Many looked at me confused.
Having moved to Germany and immediately gotten a nasty cold I believe the kid is on to something
I once had an autistic, elderly man living above my room. Whenever I sneezed, I would hear “gesundheit” from the ceiling.
Keep things personal and cozy with a warm
JAWOHL, MEIN KOLONEL !
My wife sneezes very loudly and my house isn’t great at sound insulation. Whenever she sneezes, I text her “bless you.” (Even if I’m in the same room, but it’s more fun for me when I’m not.)
Perhaps I am an autistic, elderly man.
I am careening towards the elderly part faster than I would like. But maybe we got along so well because of some autistic synergy.
Well, you are on Lemmy…
I feel seen
Can’t argue with your logic!
Being here, the odds are better he is an autistic middle-aged man.
I’m not young - I’m 38 - but I don’t believe I’m middle aged yet. Wikipedia notes that there is not an age officially stated to be middle aged, but it’s commonly said to start at 45.
Middle aged is at about E+37 years old.
Since we are building the torture nexus.
Should’ve said “Danke”

Achso.
Achtung
Unfortunately my sneezes actually sound like that
Gesundheitlich… das ist ein Befehl!
sneeze and gesundheit.
When you are startled by a particularly loud sneeze some respond with Schnauze! - which means shut up - and I think that’s beautiful.
