People that don’t always appreciate one another trying to be kind to one another one day of the year. Oftentimes failing at it and then hating even more on one another because of that very failure.
A lot of money spent to buy more crap (and create even more waste) because we’ve been educated to think that being happy means buying stuff and spending money, and also because many of us want to believe that.
A billion more Black Friday deals filtered out from my inbox thanks(giving) to my antispam filter.
It is also one more example of the US cultural dominance everywhere, at least here in France. A bit like Christmas that is now all about the fat bearded white-haired dude in his red costume and all about the necessity to spend money on gifts. A long time ago, or so I’ve been told, Christmas was not that much about that fat dude nor was it about consuming like crazy but I may have been lied to, who am I to say? Sorry if I sound somewhat negative but I’ve been witnessing for the last few decades this country I love so much giving up on so many of the stuff that made it unique and so valuable. Its culture and (once so amazing) educative system are almost gone, its politics is a sad joke at best, and its economy is… well, it’s not something anyone should joke about… So, why would its festivities be any different, right? Maybe one day we will start celebrating the 4th of July instead of our 14th and rejoice of the Boston tea party instead of our own people taking of la Bastille.
Me feeling sad set aside for a moment, a very happy thanksgiving to my American friends. If i have any left after that rant ;)
I’m not US so my opinion may not be worth much.
