Short-haul flights between Mumbai and Pune are under fresh fire, this time not for convenience or time saved, but for their deeply harmful impact on the environment. Former Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) chairman Shrikant Vaidya recently condemned such flights, calling them “climate disasters.” According to him, the greenhouse-gas emissions from a single Mumbai–Pune flight are almost four times higher than taking a train on the same route.
