In a recent article about the United States’ strained relationships with other countries, Time Magazine included a made-up quote from Canadian satire site The Beaverton — seemingly as fact.
In the Oct. 1 article about the United States’ eroding alliances, there’s a section that references U.S. Ambassador to Canada Pete Hoekstra’s recent appearance at an event hosted by the Halifax Chamber of Commerce.
At the event, Hoekstra voiced his disappointment with the anti-American sentiment that’s spread across Canada in light of U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs and his quips about Canada becoming the 51st state.
Time quoted Hoekstra: “‘A Canada that it would be very easy to target with 500% steel tariffs, or one patriot missile aimed at Parliament Hill,’ he added, rather incredulously.’”
Except Hoekstra didn’t say that — The Beaverton, a satirical news site in Canada akin to The Onion, made it up for this article titled, “US Ambassador threatens to tariff, annex, and bomb Canada if anti-American sentiment doesn’t improve.”
If hoekstra is disappointed he can go home.
The fact is we are passionate about our US trade relationship. Never in my life have I seen Canadians so unilaterally in agreement.
We just aren’t happy about it. We aren’t happy about the 51st state shit, we aren’t happy about declaring economic warfare on us (that was Trump’s own words), and we aren’t happy they sent such a cunt as Hoekstra here.
The US can talk to us when they have a serious government and throw the ass clowns in power currently in jail.
Americans vastly underestimate how petty we are and how much we hold a grudge, because we’re polite

For the international crowd, “cunt” is considered a stronger swear word here in Canada than it is in the UK. It’s not thrown around causally.

It’s crazy, I googled how to reduce microplastics in food and the AI quoted a joke from reddit saying to crumble up styrofoam to outcompete the microplastics with macroplastics as a legitimate solution.
Reminder that Hoekstra is the schmuck that said that Netherlands had regions where the police don’t go and where politicians are set on fire — and then upon his appointment as the US ambassador to the Netherlands, discovered that Dutch press don’t allow him to not answer questions.
Canada should’ve sent him back as soon as he was appointed the ambassador there.
I think that Canada should completely ignore the usa until they throw trump in jail and get rid of the Guardians of Pedophiles or GOP.
