We’ve been on a roll the last few years and had quite a few great new movies come out again this year. I’m not sure if anything is coming out in December that would topple it but I’d say my favourite has been… Sinners. Just something about that Irish dance scene that really impressed me.

Otherwise cool movies I’ve watched has been Bring her back, The Monkey, Weapons, the Ugly Stepsister and most recently Frankenstein.

What about you lot?

I liked 2023/2024 a bit better for horror but it’s still been a good year

My favorite has been Weapons, but Companion and The Long Walk are up there. They both do a good job at getting tense

Funnily enough, Letterboxd doesn’t even list M3GAN 2.0 as horror, which I might agree with, but I was also very pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed that

Frankenstein disappointed me, but that’s because I read the book for the first time about a year ago.

Weapons and Sinners were so damn good!

In Weapons when its late at night and the front door opens and the way the woman walks outside…those movements, and the way she walked, had me saying out loud “Nonononono…nopenopenope!”

I don’t really have a favorite, but overall I thought it was a good year for horror movies. Looking at the Wikipedia list, I think Weapons was probably the closest thing to being a “favorite”.

I was actually impressed with Final Destination Bloodlines. My expectations were super low, but still happy with how it worked out.

28 Years Later was interesting and pretty solid. I also thought Frankenstein was pretty solid. That one’s tough because I was somehow simultaneously expecting it to be a let down, if not just outright bad, but at the same time I have a lot of confidence in Del Toro, so I also expected it to be pretty good. I think it delivered, certainly was entertaining.

I think I’ll go with Bring Her Back, but I haven’t seen Black Phone 2 yet and I think I heard that was actually good. I also liked It Feeds

I did really like Sinners too, The Monkey, Weapons, and Companion

I would probably say Weapons, Sinners was really good too.

Is still have to see The Long Walk, Companion and Good Boy. Btw The Long Walk’s concept is taken from an older sci-fi b-movie from the early 2000s. I will have to post about it.

I don’t know if it’s the best, but I liked that 28 Years Later wasn’t a typical sequel, the ending almost reminded me of Six String Samurai and there were other points in the film that seemed to suggest a subtle black comedy approach.
