Hey, I’ve been there! (Kenilworth castle, not 1575)
I’m intrigued by those massive windows on the side facing us.
Glass was still terribly expensive then (and was until the early 20th century as I understand), yet those have a very modern look about them, unless the image just makes it look that way.
Edit: looked at some contemporary images of the ruins, and those windows look right. Wow, really impressive architectural design for 500 years ago.
16th century AD would be about the right time for it to be more a display of wealth than a defensive position, and the ruins appear to have the same openings (albeit no longer filled with glass windows)
