Tradeoffs. In the 60s, the human population of Earth was about 1/3 of today’s. Then when you wanted to learn something the people around you didn’t know, you had to walk to the (often shitty little) library, where you were usually disappointed. Or had to read a 300-page book to find out.

Avoid the sites where most of the people hang out.
