This articles criticisms are valid but I feel like some some points could be covered with better nuance which would only reinforce their main criticisms.
Like, “group think” is not a federation problem it’s a social media and people problem, IMO. So making that an issue with federation feels like strawmanning an argument. It’s like saying to a member of a minority group, why don’t you go to the supremacists bars to have a conversation with them to avoid the group thinking, maybe you’ll learn why you should be inferior. Like no one is going to do that, we go to places we find welcoming with people we vibe with.
Also it makes it seem like P2P protocols are perfect but they would also have the same issues with banning nefarious actors, and you can get doxxed if you’re not careful or hiding your IP address.
It almost feels like an ad for Simplex
I agree there are interesting points, hence why I decided to post it, but also some nonsense as you note.
That’s fair. They do highlight some issues with matrix. And honest fair criticism is the only way it’ll become better.
