Useless? Microsoft was on its way out under Balmer. Microsoft was a joke in the tech world before Satya. He completely turned Microsoft around and made it a powerhouse again. His stance on AI is flawed but I think useless is a bit of an exaggeration.

A “powerhouse”? With active revolt by Windows 10 users choosing pirated LTSC versions or Linux rather than updating to Windows 11, and releasing debloat and removal scripts of their features daily? With a gaming division that committed PR and corporate suicide? With an AI division that is a sinking black hole of war chest capital that has reaped questionable returns outside of state surveillance apparatuses in Israel? That “powerhouse”?

Their AI division is equally aimed at enterprise and consumer audiences, and rejected by both (again, outside of state surveillance contexts). Additionally, Azure may be under fire from external regulators and nations desiring data sovereignty, and competitors who just are able to outperform (AWS/Cloudflare)

AI is only recent. Satya started the form around long ago. They might be making mistakes now, but Satya was far from “useless.”
