Me except it was “I have to play the male character cos I’m a boy” then it was “What are you, a sexist, play the damn girl coward” and then it was “uh oh!”
I support all eggs in their journey, but I gotta say this is me purely because I prefer looking at the model (in 3rd person) and listening to a girl voice. I hear way too many gruff sounding men and the female voices usually have more variety of tones.
Especially watching in 3rd person as the lady character does something bad-ass, that dates back all the way to seeing Angelina Jolie as Tomb Raider.
Idk, this actually hits really close to home for me. For the longest time, I would choose the male option whenever I had the choice. Even though nobody was watching me play, I thought I had to pick my AGAB when playing roleplaying games. Needless to say, when I finally decided to pick a female MC, I never felt right going back.
Yeah this is like one of the weakest ones lol
Me, playing any game where I can play as a woman, but most recently cyberpunk2077:
I played both, and thought the female voice acting was simply better.
We need more top-notch games like Horizon and The Last of Us to force the issue
Witcher 4 and two new Tomb Raider games are incoming though.
And I cannot wait
Me neither. Though given my account balance, I probably have to.
Of course, then we have to find the actual time to play them
I gained a different perspective when I noticed when playing Elden Ring with a female character I tend to forget that it’s a female character, since most of the time I’m wrapped in loads of armour so much it doesn’t show much difference.
So yeah, maybe it’s not always an egg problem ╮(. ❛ ᴗ ❛.)╭
me me meeeee
I usually play the female option when it’s obvious the devs sirens significantly more time on character details design and customization.
Sometimes a game is just a game.
Metroid Prime
This was me as a kid. I always played boy characters when given the option, and video games didn’t exactly feature a lot of female protagonists.
When I played the original Resident Evil 2, when I was 12, that changed though. I originally played the Claire A story, and while being Claire was neat, I was 12 and being a cool girl who rides Motorcycles wasn’t exactly a super legible experience to me.
And then Sherry got introduced, and I was hooked. I was a very shy, quiet kid, who was easily scared. So the introduction of this scared little girl into the story was VERY legible to me. And when you’re tasked with playing as her, as bad mechanically as those segments were, I was a mess! I wanted to be her so damn bad!
Discovering my transness was a long process but that was one of the big early steps I took in starting to figure this shit out
