Allende wanted to nationalize Chile’s resources like its copper mines which at the time were owned by US companies.
I’m well aware. The point is how the capitalist press was used to lie to the american people furthering their agenda and suppressing freely elected socialist leaders. It answered your question, and this particular instance wasn’t revealed as fact until some 35-40 years later. There’s plenty more examples like it.
