Well, at least they recognize Worf as one of the greats. {{:-)
But I find that “Duty! Honor! Service!” shouting really repulsive. I find it rather undignified. I can’t for one second imagine Picard, Riker or any of the other classic characters doing that in their academy years.
I know what you mean.
I was thinking about it, though, in the context of the post-Burn setting. A lot of these kids probably didn’t grow up with a strong sense of any of those things, so maybe it makes sense to be pushing those values pretty hard.
I often read people being thrown off by the Duty! Honor! Service! But. I think it’s just a slight shift in Starfleet. Duty always came first, and there are a couple of TNG episodes where Picard is very adamant about it. I don’t see it shouting as a captain, but as a young cadet? Sure. And Honor, with Klingons being part of Starfleet, could be a cultural shift. Who knows. Maybe it will be discussed in the show, that would be cool.
I would imagine people are more uncomfortable with the “standing and chanting” aspect - you definitely can’t argue that those aren’t Starfleet values with a straight face.
