Valve’s latest Steam Hardware Survey is out, and it makes bleak reading for Intel. Following the underwhelming launch of Intel’s Arrow Lake Core Ultra CPUs, which generally showed gaming performance actually decreasing compared to its previous Raptor Lake CPUs, gamers are seemingly voting with their wallets and buying AMD chips instead. According to Valve’s new December 2025 survey, 55.58% of Steam users who took part in the latest survey use an Intel CPU, while AMD’s share has gone up to 44.42%. Cast your minds back to the same time five years ago, and Intel’s share sat at a commanding 81%, while AMD’s 19% looked positively piddly. Head over to Amazon, look at the CPU best sellers, and you won’t see a single Intel CPU in the top 10. 🖊️️🤖

We exist in a space where an “affordable” gaming PC usually costs the best part of $1,000, and that’s before you get to the monitor, the keyboard, and all the rest of it. Budget by PC gaming standards, sure. That’s budget DDR5, for mainstream graphics card money. If the budget-conscious, entry-level roots of PC gaming are cut short, the whole tree looks in serious danger of, if not toppling over, at the very least withering in the sun. 🖊️️🤖

Amiga filesystems aren’t compatible with modern computers. ‘amifuse’ is a new FUSE driver for macOS & Linux that mounts Amiga PFS3 disk images natively, using an m68k emulator. Read-only by default, with experimental read-write support.

But there is a console that I’ve been searching for good deals on: Steam Deck. When Steam Deck was released, I hadn’t requested it as a Christmas gift mainly because it’ll be way too expensive to import to Slovakia. Same with Steam Deck. I was surprised that Team Fortress 2 is actually playable on controller and some tasks, like grenade jumping are actually easier on Steam Deck than on my desktop. Steam Deck comes preinstalled with SteamOS, which in its first iterations was a Debian distribution, but the fine folks at Valve soon realised that Debian is not feasible for their consoles. 🖊️️🤖

We like to pick spooky games for October, as we feel it fits with the Halloween season and everything. We wouldn’t say Halloween Harry (1993, developed by Interactive Binary Illusions and SubZero Software, published by Apogee) is a particularly scary game. But more than anything it has “halloween” in the name, and that’s all we need to be convinced to put this on the roster! The first two guests are both from Australia, which is apt, because that’s where Halloween Harry was developed, by John Passfield and his team. More on that in the next episode, in which we get to talk to John Passfield and his business partner Pete Mullins. 🖊️️🤖
