When I was in Germany years ago, I was looking for a place to eat and remember seeing a place with a sign that said PIZZA! and then had a picture of a pizza crust with a MOUNTAIN (like 3 feet high) of mett on it (which, at the time I thought was raw hamburger not pork). I thought to myself “if that’s what pizza is over here, no thank you.”
I’ve never seen mett on a pizza. Not to say that place doesn’t exist somewhere, but it’s definitely not common.
If you’re ever in Germany again, searching for a decent pizza, don’t look for a blinking “Pizza” sign, which usually marks a fast food pizza delivery. Look out for a “Ristorante” or “Pizzeria” which is a real italian restaurant selling authentic italian pizza.
