The town is Mettupalayam, in southern India. The meteor was captured entirely by accident; he’d set his camera to take 15-second exposures 10 seconds apart over the course of a night, and only afterwards discovered the meteor in one of them. The picture won an honorable mention in National Geographic’s 2016 nature photographer of the year contest.
