    The characters are done with the flags because in this comic series the characters are representing entire countries or their people, hence the US one referring to the England one as “dad” (history). But yeah, that flag is the standard flag of England, it has few political connotations besides referring to the country. Though any flag can, of course, be used by nationalists and bigots and whatnot.

      I hadn’t seen this comic before, and I did check it out a bit and it makes much more sense now.

      Not being a sports person, I haven’t seen the English flag in that context. I’m much more used to seeing the Union Jack, with bands, in movies, etc.

      Like you and the other reply said, people can make flags represent a number of things. I always read other countries think the US is very flag crazy, but even here people wearing the flag is pretty over the top, and with how things are going around these parts, I’d assume sooner negative things about those people outside of an Independence Day festival.

      That’s why I initially got very confused, since it had me prepared for a negative American stereotype, then I see the England-only flag, but the comic itself was harmless and also cross-posted to Non-Political Cartoons, but the US flag is pretty polarized now with MAGA trying to claim it, some people avoiding it because of MAGA, and then another group trying to reclaim it from the nationalists. It gets so confusing anymore. 😵‍💫

      I appreciate you both taking the time to explain it. I’m glad a flag is still just a flag in most other countries. Again, apologies for my ignorance.
