The dude in charge now was specifically chosen for the role by the Castro family in 2018 and has stayed in power ever since. If Cuba is on its way towards democracy then great but it has yet to be seen.
I am a firm believer that under competent management that Cuba would have no starvation regardless of US Blockade. It was originally an agricultural nation. They are not suffering because of some refusal to bend a knee, they’re suffering because of a continuation of the USSR style of communism plaguing their government structure.
