    So, lemmy get this right…

The woman committed massive bank fraud, and is now sentenced to death. But if she just commits more bank fraud to pay off the government, she gets to continue to live, with 3 hots and a cot?

The idea is that she raises that legitimately. It’s a good law in theory, imo: if you can pay back 75% before sentencing, you get to live.

I’d think the better idea would be to confiscate all her assets and effectively break her, and send her out to be homeless. Not to have taxpayers paying for her stay in prison, whether waiting death or not.

I’d be the sort of judge to say fuck that, go live on the streets, if you can. And I’d take her ill gotten assets and do my best to reimburse those that were conned, and whatever I couldn’t necessarily account for, I’d invest that with full transparency into the government wherever it needs to go.

Edit: Killing the woman isn’t beneficial at all. Fuckit, utilize her skills, just do it legitimately.

Putting her on the streets would not really solve anything either. It would just exacerbate any issues and prevent long term re-integration.

Not that she’s young or anything, but the punishment shouldn’t change based on the person
