Supermarket sashimi during my first trip to japan was where my preference switched to tuna rather than salmon.

880 yen, about $5.50 usd, and with that 20% discount closer to $4.40

Since supermarkets herr cut all the sashimi in their stores fresh each day, the longer the day goes on the higher the discount gets.

Here, the salmon was a bit stringy though flavorful while both the tuna and mackerel tasted fresh, soft and delicious, with the caveat that this was pretty late in the day, which is why it’s discounted with that red and yellow sticker by 20%…

    If you want to know why rates of obesity are so low in Japan compared to other developed countries, just visit any of their supermarkets or convenience stores located on nearly every block. The accessibility and affordability of healthy but delicious food options really puts other countries to shame.
