GOP lawmakers returning from their Doral retreat are voicing deep frustration about the party’s lack of accomplishments and are divided over how to spend their remaining time in power.

House Republican leaders are publicly projecting confidence about their chances of holding the majority in the midterms. Privately, many of their members sound far less certain.

Gathered this week at a Trump-owned resort in Doral, Florida, to coordinate strategy for the rest of the legislative year and the looming campaign season, Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., struck an upbeat tone, telling reporters, “Do not bet against the House Republicans” as they try to maintain their narrow edge in the chamber.

But beneath the public optimism, there is deep frustration — and, in some cases, outright pessimism — simmering inside Johnson’s conference.

“No one thinks we’re keeping the majority except for the speaker,” one House Republican, who requested anonymity to discuss the internal sentiment, told MS NOW.

    Well I mean, the GOP in congress is not really doing their jobs, right?

    No surprises they are getting voted out. That’s how it’s supposed to work. All their eggs are in an unpopular basket and they, the elected representatives of millions, are choosing not to go with what their constituents actually want.

    They don’t actually represent their constituents though. They represent the people who fund the party.

    I hope the Dems are preparing for the inevitable massive coup attempt Trump is going to pull with this coming election.

    Every single dirty trick from siezing ballots to dumping mail-in votes to sending ICE to arrest Dem voters.

      I wonder how effective it could be to infiltrate those organizations that scrutinized votes the last election - yeah, they were pro Trump, but I also think they had a lot of people who were genuinely worried about cheating

      This explains why they are trying SO hard to get rid of mail-in votes: they’re not hackable. Nor, it seems, are votes cast in early voting, where available and where state law dictates they must be counted prior to Election Day. And because elections are handled by the states, not every state is served by that specific Election System Company That Shall Not Be Named (but invariably is).

      I remember watching that fuckery on Election night, how it seemed to be progressing naturally, both presidential and down-ballot races alike, blue and red both having the usual pauses and surges, and then the whole presidential thing seemed to begin to surge red all at once across the board around 9pm Eastern time, almost as though someone flipped a switch, but with enough variation to make you think nah, I must have imagined it.

      But having already read The Path to Florida many years earlier, I wasn’t so quick to write off my lying eyes.

      And nothing that has happened since that night has caused me to change my mind.

    There’s still time for them to, you know, actually do their jobs.

    Impeach, prosecute, and imprison Trump and his cronies, pass a universal healthcare bill, end this stupid war, and about 50 other things, and they might even earn my vote in the midterms.

      I was gonna say, this is how they win. They already own all the media. They could do this and then create the story they want people to believe out of it. CNN, FOX, WaPo, and the new Daily Show without Jon Stewart will blast their new message.
