My head canon with that one is after earths gate got shock absorbers (first mentioned in the Antarctic episode) it made travel more pleasant.

Definitely not unique to Stargate. I remember a cast member from Power Rangers commenting on how interesting it was that so many rock filled quaries were key strategic targets to the various forces invading earth…

The fun thing about StarGate is the creators are fully aware and even point it out multiple times in the show.
