Am I the only one who really hates that comment section is slowly turning into gen-z discord channel where people communicate in reaction gifs?

The few times I visit the page: Not on my front page.
    Are you browsing all?
If yes, I know what’s the problem.

afaik on the PC browsers Reddit Enhancement Suite allows further control of how content is presented, but on the app you still have to avert your eyes.

Images weren’t even allowed in comments until like 2019 or something. I remember being horrified when I first saw one and blocked them in ublock origin immediately.

Couldn’t resist… the gif suits nearly any situation

It’s this attitude that drives meme culture into the ground. Like no, memes arise because they convey a specific feeling in a specific context. You just want to use the same picture to respond to everything because you have no personality

Top comment was something along the lines of “bricks finally seeing sunlight after all these years”

I would not be surprised if most of those are bots as it seems really easy to automate reaction gifs with help of AI and how upvoted they get. Ez karma farm

somehow and luckily images appear as a link(button) instead of directly loading for me on old reddit so i just ignore them.

I can’t comment there anymore. However, now and then I check posts/comments that seem interesting to read but perhaps the subreddits I check are different than yours. Also… the GenZ influence is staggering. I miss the old internet where people just developed a thick skin and still engaged. But then, I am old.

I wasn’t trying to shit on gen-z, just that comments under a submission looking like a gen-z discord channel seems really annoying and unfitting for reddit (and lemmy too, but they’re not being overused here). I just turned 30 and myself constantly use reaction gifs on discord, so it’s not like I’m against them in general. Different places calls for different ways of communicating.
