NSFW Content Policy

Purpose and Scope

This policy governs the handling of Not Safe For Work (NSFW) content across our platform. As our infrastructure is located in Finland, this policy adheres to Finnish legislation and European Union regulations while maintaining our specific community standards for acceptable content.

Content Jurisdiction

It is critical to distinguish between content stored on our drives and content viewed from other networks.

1. Local Content (Strictly Moderated)

Local content encompasses all material directly hosted on our servers, including posts, comments, and media uploaded to our Pict-rs instance.

Responsibility: You are directly responsible for any content you upload.
Storage: This content lives on our hard drives in Finland and is subject to our strictest rules.

2. Remote Content (Federated)

Remote content refers to material hosted on external instances but viewable through our platform via federation.

Subscription: Users may subscribe to remote NSFW communities, provided those communities do not host illegal content (CSAM, etc.).
Caching vs. Hosting: While the server automatically caches remote media for performance, users are strictly prohibited from manually re-uploading remote NSFW content to our local storage.
Blocking: The admin team reserves the right to defederate from (block) instances that systemically host illegal content or fail to moderate CSAM, to protect our infrastructure’s legal standing.

Content Classifications

Based on the jurisdictions above, the following rules apply:

1. Locally Prohibited Content (Zero Tolerance)

Illegal Content (Finnish Law): Any material deemed illegal under the Criminal Code of Finland. This strictly includes:
- Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) - Results in immediate reporting to authorities.
- Extreme violence or depictions of gross violence.
- Bestiality or sexual violence.
Pornographic Material: Sexually explicit content involving consenting adults. While legal in Finland, we do not host this content on our local infrastructure to maintain server stability and community focus.

2. Locally Allowed Content

Adult-Themed Content: Non-explicit discussions or artistic depictions of nudity that do not qualify as pornography.
Sensitive Topics: Discussions requiring content warnings (e.g., mental health, politics, war footage for news purposes).
NSFW Tagging: All material falling under this category must be appropriately tagged to allow users to filter their feed.

Enforcement Protocol

Violation Response Framework

Our instance employs a graduated response system, though illegal content triggers immediate escalation:

Content Removal
- Immediate deletion of violating material.
- Warning issued with reference to the specific policy violated.
Temporary Suspension
- Implemented for repeated infractions or disregard for NSFW tagging rules.
- Duration determined by violation severity.
Account Termination & Legal Reporting
- Standard Termination: For persistent violations of the “No Pornography” rule.
- Immediate Termination: For posting content illegal under Finnish law (CSAM, extreme violence). Relevant data may be preserved for handover to the Finnish Police (Poliisi) if required by law.

Administrative Rights

The administration team reserves the right to:

Modify this policy without prior notice to comply with changing Finnish or EU regulations.
Remove any content at their discretion.
Implement disciplinary actions as deemed necessary.
Make final determinations on policy interpretation.
