Let’s kick things off with what is, well, probably a hard question, to get to know each other, since this is a new community. What is your favorite Japanese song?

I know a lot of people, myself included, would have a hard time deciding on a number 1, especially since it can and will change over time. So feel free to list several of your favorites if you can’t choose. I’ll post mine as well in a comment below.

    For me, Minami’s Hollowness has been sitting in the number 1 spot for the past 2-3 years (although I’ve discovered the song in 2019). I particularly love the lyrics for this one, so make sure you turn the English subs on, unless you know Japanese. Hollowness wasn’t always my favorite Minami song, but my favorite song has consistently been from Minami ever since I discovered her in 2019. It was just a matter of which one.

    Then, in no particular order, my next 4 to round out the Top 5 are:

    • Harusaruhi’s Oogoto - My first introduction to her, still my favorite song by Harusaruhi. I did hear a couple V.W.P songs, of which she’s a part of, before Oogoto, but this was my first song from her alone without the rest of the group.
    • Ave Mujica’s Symbol IV - Beautiful song that shot them up in my artist rankings a lot. Not that I don’t love other songs by Ave Mujica though!
    • MyGO’s Shiori - Sometimes it takes me a while to warm up to a song. It’s not always after my first listen. That’s part of why I never skip an anime opening or ending, even when I’m not particularly into it: cause I know I might change my opinion drastically. Well, this isn’t one of them. Love at first listen for MyGO’s Shiori.
    • Minami’s Crying for Rain - Once upon a time my favorite Minami song, which is now Hollowness. Was also the first I’ve heard from her. And honestly, the only reason it’s not number 1 still is cause I’ve listened to it way too much. Given some time, it might go back up.
