This is not multiculturalism. It is masochism. It is the belief that liberalism must be so open-minded that its own brains are spilled onto the prayer mat. It is the fetishization of identity at the expense of liberty. It is the ideological pacifism of a society too terrified to assert its own values, lest it be accused of “racism” by those who mistake ideology for ethnicity.

something makes me think this guy is getting a little too emotional at a strawman. Obviously Islam can be critiqued, and it frequently is without bigotry.

Can you say Islam is inferior to liberalism? Are you brave to do that? Are you open enough to do that? I don’t think so. The article points out, without recognizing that Western values are superior to Islamic ones, yet because superiority is evil, and inferiority gets credit, it is politically incorrect to point out the obvious to the one that should be bias. A devout Muslim without hesitation would say Islam is better than the Western system.

Yeah, that’s all a dumb strawman. People point out the illiberalisms of Islam all the time. Sure, some people will call any critique of Islam racist, but that does not reinforce his victim complex about how it’s impossible to criticize Islam, just like some people being bigoted towards Muslims does not mean all criticism against them is wrong. The author is arguing against a strawman, because many people, actually, can recognize that a thing can be criticized and a target of hate without mutual exclusion.
