I hope they picked a field with high demand, like medical something. Otherwise they’re gonna be grinding a 9-5 and be $300k in debt forever.

not true! I also chose to have enormous medical debt
PhDs in many fields, particularly the physical sciences, are funded. Lost wages are real of course, but you can often come out the other side without accumulating any debt.
I hear after grade 16 they bring back recess … with cigarettes and coffee.
