Fuck the US, no one asked them! All these years they do nothing but stupid decisions.

    *At the end of September.

ie. Just long enough for Israel to finalise the annexation of Gaza then the West Bank alone will be recognised as the nation of Palestine.

Israel will claim that since Hamas launched the Oct 7th attack, they’re allowed to keep the land spoils, UN will balk but begrudgingly agree.

Is this also like the “promise” of “recognition” of the Brits, French and Canadians which requires Hamas to disarm?

The formal recognition is only possible during a UN general assembly, which next happens in September. That’s why world leaders keep stating their intention to recognize Palestine in September, at the next session of the UNGA.

Apologies, I should read the article before commenting. I see he hasn’t paired it with condemnation and boycott of Israel which is a little disappointing.

Yeah, formal recognition is just a baby step. Only the bare minimum for acknowledging Palestine as a state. I’ll be surprised if anything other than this happens. Maybe we’ll get a stern rebuke or a tut-tut soon.

It’s not election season yet, he’ll keep the weapons grade Tut-tutting until then.

Stern rebukes are only for if it’s looking like they might lose the election.

Why do they need to wait for the UN vote to recognize another state? I could see a UN vote being needed to vote for the UN to recogize and incorporate them, but that shouldn’t stop a country from acting independently.

I think that’s because it’s when the UN summit happens? And formally you recognize new states at the summit?

They can do that at any time. Idk what it takes for Australian law, but usually a ratification of a recognition is enough.

Recognition in general is just fake rules like most things in diplomacy.

See what I meant when I expected the Australian government to do something over those protests? I guess it did make me feel good about myself after all
