This however is the main problem of social media in general. It creates circles of like-minded people where it is really easy to reject “other” thoughts and accept “our” ideas without much questioning. This is less a problem for people who are trained in critical thinking, but might be dangerous for more unstable people.

I’m just saying that a mix of different views is always good to some degree. Whether/how this should be done on Lemmy is a different thing.

Though it is pretty wild they chose a vacuum bot lol.

In engineering school we created a robot that does specific tasks for a contest. It was a lot of work, but that was the main goal. Using an existing device that already has a LIDAR (and probably SLAM) sounds like a very smart move to me, for a project where you want to focus on other problems that have no existing solution yet.

It’s a step in a new direction, a proof of concept. Maybe in the future something similar could be useful for road work or on mars or idk. No innovation & development without experimenting. You have to start somewhere and with stuff that is available.

And even if nothing comes of it, I bet it was a fun project to work on.

I brought mine to something like a (fantasy) Ren Fare where my friends and I went as pirates (who would have guessed with my username 🫣). We used our Flintlock replicas to smash the sea biscuits into pieces, and then let those soak a bit in grogg. Makes a great snack 😋

I made some years ago, I wanted to try what the seamen ate. I still have some left, good thing it doesn’t go bad xD
