  • While the term “duct tape” does commonly refer to both the (usually) grey fabric based tape and the aluminum foil based tape used in duct work, technically only the aluminum tape is duct tape.

The proper term for the fabric based tape is actually duck tape as it was originally made from cotton duck, which is a durable cotton weave similar to denim or canvas that can be easily made water resistant by impregnating it with wax. It was invented during WWII and was used to seal ammo cans. It’s also not particularly resistant to extreme temperatures nor is it air tight, and is kind of useless when it comes to duct work.

Duck Tape is also a name brand for both duck tape and duct tape.

Ginger is second only to garlic in the hierarchy of seasonings. Interestingly, both are also things I will happily eat raw.

Just take some ginger root, peel it, cut it into sticks, and you’ve got something to chew on for a while.

Peel some garlic cloves, throw em in a bowl, chow down. It’s great.

  • I know it’s almost two weeks later, but I’m also seeing this issue. My experience matches the others reported here.

After I post a comment/reply I get a slightly shrunken window with black borders.

Additionally, some of the UI elements look slightly washed out in color.

It’s almost like the animation for returning from the reply screen never fully finishes.

  • The communities of enthusiasts, purists, and OSS advocates, I think would push back hard against any enshitification. And the license models would allow those same people to revert any changes made by moneyed interests by simply forking the software and making it better.

You already kind of have examples of that happening. RHEL and SUSE are both owned by corporate interests. Both have open source alternatives both upstream and downstream of them. History has already shown that when either do shitty things, people push back, and if that push back fails they fork it and fix it themselves.

  • Yeah, switching isn’t that easy. Especially if you have a lot of “unique” media types with different requirements for scraping metadata. Things like anime, audio books, or comedy albums.

TBF Plex doesn’t handle those all that well either from a stock install. It was a lot of work to get it to handle everything well.

But also, Plex’s proxy service for remote streaming, is it’s killer feature that prevents me from switching. I need to access my media from networks where my private domain is blocked.
