  • Thanks for putting this together! This is an important matter so I’m pinning this thread for visibility.

On a personal note I’m definitely downloading my itch.io library - while none of my games there should fall under the current purge I’d rather not risk it. Steam should be safe as, as far as I know, they don’t really have a tendency of removing purchased games from people’s accounts (even when delisting titles) but I guess we’ll see.

Besides the obvious issue of having to keep constant vigilance about our freedom it’s also a good reminder to keep backups of anything you don’t want to lose access to. It’s the only way to be relatively safe from things like this.

  • I didn’t prepare my comment before as I usually do and I pretty much forgot everything I was going to write today so I’ll just make a short more rambling version this time. Oh well.

My villainess entry for today is Villainesses Have More Fun - woman gets pulled into a novel, just wants to bum around as a rich kid instead of acting her part.
This one is more of a power fantasy than most of the series I post but for whatever reason I really DO have more fun with this so I can let this slide (I’m not a fan of pure power fantasies normally). It’s light and funny and a decent way to waste your time. Also:

(No, I will not provide context.)

Numba 2 is… NOT A VILLAINESS STORY! You probably didn’t expect that!

The Girl From the Other Side: Siúil, a Rún is a moody and kinda sweet story about a young girl in a land of strange, dark creatures. It’s pretty great though reading it feels a bit heavy due to the atmosphere.
I came back to this series after a good few years and it’s still as interesting as it was at the time. I’m also not in a head space to read it so I’ll most likely postpone this for some later date. But I want to know what happens next though…

Another series I came back to is She Is Also Cute Today - something I remember liking quite a bit back when it was new. Well, for whatever reason I’m really not feeling it this time. There are some funny moments here and there but as a whole it doesn’t do much for me unfortunately.
I’ll keep reading from time to time to see if I can get back into the groove but this one might end up dropped before long.

There was one more thing I wanted to write about today but, as mentioned at the start, I completely forgot what it was. I pretty sure it had something to do with yet another series I binged through last week but it’s gone. Maybe next time.

  • If we get a VR mode before an official Linux build I’m going fly to Manchester and spread mayo all over their keyboards. Every single one of them.

We’ve been told multiple times that they already have working builds internally and the only reason they haven’t release them was supposedly wait for a complete Vulkan implementation. Could they finish one thing for once before moving on to gimmicks for small percentage of the playerbase?

It’s cool that they didn’t drop this feature but is VR really more important than a whole secondary platform?

I hope someone steps on a lego brick if that’s the case.

  • This excitement is half the fun, I guess. Should make for some interesting memories in the future.

I never got too deep into distros honestly. My early attempts were very rough, very short and limited to Mint and basic Ubuntu I think (they were in a worse shape back then). When I made my last attempt to switch I stumbled onto Pop!_OS and found it to be exactly what I needed. It looks good, runs well and has all the necessary drivers and libraries to play games without issues. I’ve been using it for almost 7 years now and I’m quite happy with it.

It’s Ubuntu based too so might be worth a look if that’s what you’re interested in. It IS using a customised GNOME for now but they’re working on their own desktop environment to replace it with. They also have a handy tutorial if you’d rather change it yourself.

  • Man, I’d be terrified to have a kid honestly. I’ve had enough experience with taking care of people to know I REALLY don’t want to deal with that if I have a choice - I’m too much of a self-sacrificing idiot for that. Good luck though! My friends with kids are happy about their choices so I hope you’ll end up the same way.

My first experience with Linux made me swear I’ll never going to touch it again, funnily enough. Now here I am, running it as a main OS on everything I can and having a great time with both games and any kind of personal projects I can come up with. Heck, the fact that some games run better than on Windows is still kinda crazy to me at times even though I understand why. It’s amazing how much things progressed.

  • Man, I didn’t expect people to remember me. Uhm… hi! ヾ(・ω・*)

I’ve been busy with less fun stuff for a while and when I did play games it wasn’t for long enough to warrant a post unfortunately. I’m hoping for a more permanent return soon as I’m eying to start some titles that will fit this community again.

CMR04 is great! Still holds up really well, has a nice balance between arcade and sim in its driving model, looks simple but in a readable way and has a mod for widescreen resolutions on PC. It also has no problems on Linux which is a big win for me. Probably my favourite rally game of that era.

  • Still in the manhwa mines, don’t mind me.

    The Antagonist’s Pet

I finished it last week. It’s a really warm story about bonds, love and just being there for each other. I really liked all of the main characters and the general philosophy presented throughout - it was fun, touching and generally a joy to go through. All in all, a really enjoyable read.
One warning though: this series contains multiple scenes of physical and psychological abuse - keep that in mind if it’s something that affects you.

Some random thoughts on the series:

    • Double isekai plot did indeed happen, turned out very differently than what I expected.
    Spoiler talk

The whole situation with Minah (Angela) had to be terrifying. A teenager being randomly dropped into another world and seeing playing the role of a mother as her only way to maybe possibly get back to her own world? Of course she’s not going to make good choices in a situation like that.
That doesn’t justify her abusing everyone around her, obviously, but I can understand why she was so desperate about it.

    A terrible situation all round.

    • Another surprise: the final arc. While the story had its share of more serious topics I didn’t think it would end with political intrigue and everything else that followed. It was good but I’m still going back and forth on how well it fits (or rather, how I feel about it fitting in) with the story.
    • There are many flashback chapters throughout the series. They are good and do a lot to flesh out backstories and motivations of all the important characters but man… every time they show up it feels pretty random and out of place. It’s like there just wasn’t a good way to lead into them so they are just cold dropped at times they kinda sorta work.

Not That Villainess! / Mistaken for a Wicked Woman!

Girl from a poor noble family travels to the capital to become a knight, gets mistaken for her “villainess twin sister” she didn’t even know about, shenanigans ensue. Also she has a stupidly rich father she didn’t know about either.

A pretty fun read though I feel like it kinda moves past the initial idea pretty quickly. It’s still there to some extent but it doesn’t feel as relevant. At least MC being headstrong and unwilling to get played with keeps things interesting.

Will have to see how season 2 goes before I can come up with an opinion honestly.

    A Handbook for Villainesses

Fake saintess is used to do a lot of bad things, gets tired of the charade and kills herself right before becoming a sacrifice. She wakes up alive, 10 years earlier and wants to repent for everything wrong she did in her past life. She also decides to act like “a bad girl” to make sure no one tries to make her pretend to be a saintess ever again.

Pretty strong concept, fun characters and cute art. It’s a solid read and MC being thought how to act like a baddie is great. I’m not too sure about the recent story developments but I’m willing to wait and see how things play out for now.
