Ohhh no I never liked the sewers level. 😬 So much terror with the noises and the tentacles and the murky “water.”
The train level was awesome though, and the soundtrack they picked was PERFECT.

Lol I’m legit wondering what was meant by mentioning Digg, just saw an article it was gonna come back but got overwhelmed with bots and Ai?
Is there… more to it?

I think a global mesh network with an encrypted layer would be better. With micro transactions for delivery.
…We’re going back to the postal service, but with fun little mystery ciphers!

“I laughed. My friend laughed. The toaster laughed. We shot the toaster.”

I’m so into this as an idea. The saddest part being I seem to be one of the few people I know willing to to the hardware/hosting/setup and I get this sinking feeling
“Nobody cares. They just want convenience.” :(
I’ve thought a lot about trying to set up a VPN’d social media alternative before, where it’s literally just friends and family sharing what matters to us without ads and stuff.
But with storage prices lately? That’ll definitely have to wait. 😅

I want that nice middle ground 90’s-2000’s 'net:
There was a lot of weird stuff, there was scary places, but general browsing and surfing wouldn’t USUALLY suddenly hit you with some NSFL / CSAM stuff that made you wish your brain had a “bleach port.”
Stuff like TOR is really cool in theory, and absolutely necessary, but it still has that back-alley “Don’t stray from the street lamps and guide posts and trust no one.” vibe. Definitely not a place one can (easily) go around making friends.
That’s why I just enjoyed watching Mutahar surf it, since he knows what he’s doing lol.
I’m curious if people tend to use i2p as much.
And then there’s that pesky network effect, of course: Secretive places on the web might finally break free of the corporate net, but the non-criminals inhabiting it will likely be those already deep into sweaty nerdery and a definite non-zero chance of untreated schizophrenia.
But, yeah, make something too accessible and it gets Eternal September’d into yet another extension of corporate / state hegemony…
I’m deeply invested in where we go from here, and how to make that future brighter as opposed to following the downward trend…

Is this even for static sites? Geeze, that sounds awful. I’ve been getting really excited about starting up an “indie web” site and enjoying that HTML/CSS digital gardening I was way too ADHD to get in on in the early 00’s…

TIL as I’ve long suspected: The Declaration of Independence and Constitution are left-wing zines circulated by anti-authoritarian extremists. Fascinating.

This is why Jesus said it’s a foolish and doomed idea to swear oaths and pledge allegiances.
First move the “christian nation” clan makes?
“Yeah we’re making everyone pledge to an idol now, and they have to do whatever the one waving it says, lol. Lmao, even.”

Don’t worry, you’re one Docker pull away from having to look up how to manually migrate Postgres databases within running containers!
(Looks at my PaperlessNGX container still down. Still irritated.)

Oo I haven’t gotten to use this one for a while. How do people feel about (covert or otherwise) advertisers in their spaces to interact with other humans?

Since a picture is worth a thousand words.
That meme was pretty popular on Twitter. Many people would harass profit seeking companies with it, block all advertising accounts, etc. Because they were there to communicate with each other. (And sometimes to publicly shame bad companies.)
…But they lost that battle because the platform itself was designed to enable and push ads. The users were always the product.
The Fediverse works differently. It is yours, mine, OURS.
If me and my friends made a game and we’re excited about it? We can share it to a gamedev group primarily to talk about it, even if it has a steam page and people ask, sure. If it offers something for the community to discuss and engage (positively) over, it’s a good thing.
If the point of the post was to “How do ya do, fellow kids?” In order to shill, it’s gonna get sniffed out real fast. Lots of for-profit cloud services try this nonsense and get busted.
The world is in a scary place right now, and everyone’s looking for their next get rich quick easy money gold rush. The Fediverse is specifically trying to block that sleeze so people can be free to genuinely communicate without some polo-clad intern marching up to our coffee table and trying to tell us all the wonderful benefits of Starbucks.
The Fediverse is not an “untapped market.” It’s designed to be a “tap resistant un-market.”
At its best, it’s a town square where we behave like humans and discuss ideas, rather than a bazarr where you can’t hear your friends because everyone’s hawking goods in your face and screaming about their “GrEaT dEaLs!!!111one”.
If you’re a business that actually seeks to be a genuine part of the community and benefit it in more ways than just sales, there might be a place for you. Being a co-op with ethical labor practices will take you far.
But nobody’s going to swallow that “EdUcAtE aBoUt HoW yOuR pRoDuCt ImPrOvEs LiVeS!” swill here.
Hope this helps!

No notes. Poetry. Bravo!

His timing is His own, but I’m praying sooner rather than later, that’s for sure. 🙏
LOL the computer monitor: “You are a bitch!” :(
Ahhh, the Internet lol.

This is my theory as well and it keeps me up at night. Seriously. The smartphonification of personal computing is my personal hell, and I KNOW I’m not alone.
In a way, because I’m not a silly person who puts my entire identity online, the Internet allows me to connect to the world whilst remaining safely disconnected from the “show me your ID” seriousness of the “real”/meatspace world.
My personal computer is ideally where I can do what I want, speak with whom I want, and be whom I want, and not be bothered or spied on.
The computing world used to be a little crazy, but it’s where we went to get away from the slobbering normies and politicians before Eternal September and Facebook started the slide toward online-mandatory existence for everyone.
Now everything is about “law and order” and “we the government need to contract with private corporations to kEeP yOuR kIdS sAfE.” (They’ll just hoover up and subsequently lose or sell all of our data to rival nation states or criminal syndicates.)
We need a massive education campaign and pushback against this madness. Know what’s a bigger danger to our kids than the Internet apparently? Lawmakers.

Oh, on top of all their war crimes against humanity? Sure, toss it on the pile. So now, who’s gonna hold them accountable?
I mean hey as long as it’s not snake island, doll island, or sentinel island, these are some real contenders!
Although I’m concerned that “potable water” is only listed as an asset for one of them, and that one’s the “basically cursed” one 😂.
Yeah, there was that “Glimpse” fork with a mission to primarily change the name annnnd…it was quite short lived.
