I’ll never stop thanking Australia for that, because it forced Valve to put their policy world-wide which then forced the even shittier companies to do the same.
Well, most of them at least.
Well there’s not really any major 3rd person MOBA’s, and Deadlock is not very similar to Smite in gameplay.
I think it’s an interesting addition to a not very well explored genre – I’m not the biggest MOBA fan but this one is a lot of fun (for me) because of the emphasis on movement and patience.
I wonder if the dev team wanted to play a game that doesn’t really exist yet and so they made this, since it seems more like a passion project.
Article update:
Update #1 - 14:31 UTC: Rockstar have now put up an official FAQ for BattlEye where they state:
Is BattlEye compatible with Steam Deck?
Steam Deck does not support BattlEye for GTA Online. You will be able to play GTAV Story Mode but unable to play GTA Online.
Note: GTAV and GTA Online are not officially supported on Steam Deck and all technical support questions should be directed to Valve’s Steam Deck support content and community.
I’m still currently waiting for an official statement from Rockstar on any plans to enable it, since BattlEye as mentioned below is supported on Linux / Steam Deck.
I’m sure.its a bit of that too, but I do feel like the ultimate reason is still, “well why are you taking time off to do something that isn’t only benefitting you?”
basically the same mindset that created this culture is what developed compensation for our time, as opposed to just taking the loss for the day to do a good thing.
I could not believe it, but I’m choosing to… Believe it.
It’s funny because we don’t even need GPU’s. There’s tech that offloads the model’s “search” to an analog computer which is ~98% accurate for a fraction of the energy.
I imagine NVIDIA isn’t too excited about that side of AI, though.
I think it’s for people who are intentionally playing poorly, not navigating their way around the map and getting lost or being a poor shot
Possible prequel to His.
Damn right! Damn hell ass right!
You lack the cultural lens of America. About half of our country governs from the perspective of “why should I?” with the most negative and self-preserving mindset possible.
Why should I pay for others healthcare, even if it means they pay for mine? Why should I donate my blood if it doesn’t benefit me?
Solve that problem by giving you $25-100 for your “donations”
Did you see Borderlands, Killer’s Game, or any of the Rebel Moon variations?
That’s awesome, I didn’t know that bit! I was coming from a colorless perspective for this engagement simply for the idea that if color is present, that it might become the predominant name.
But as you mentioned, having them share the same letter actually resolves that issue completely
Yeah but what your dad didn’t talk about was how the generational connection to the meme has been slowly bled out by social media companies, replacing genuine nostalgia for manufactured social humor.
That is to say, boomers felt more connected to their memes than they did to ours, and more than we did to ours.
Likewise, we have more connection to the memes of our youth than Gen Z supposedly will/does to their memes.
And of course, it’s a bunch of B.S. because how do you quantify nostalgic connection! We didn’t watch Skibidi toilet, so how could we call upon it’s nostalgia the same way that we do for F7U12 or Trollolol?
The only thing I could potentially agree with about my own claims here are that there is a small shift in the amount of relevance of each generations cultural memehood, where as each newer generation comes, there is more and more content to draw from. Not only do current generations have Mario and Sonic memes, they also have Skibidi and social memes, so I could see there being a bit of a “limit” on how possible it is to like all of the memes equally.
Basically, in 20 years, will Skibidi be looked back at as fondly as Rage comics? Honestly, probably. But how about all of the other 49,000 memes?
The best meme survives, so what will be nostalgic for Gen Z?
Maybe this will be the first time we get a conclusion. Or, wait, even better! It can lead into Constantine 3!
I was thinking shapes as well, but then it comes down to design again - how a simple inflection of color nearby could suddenly attribute spade to blue then we’re back to square one.
It’s an interesting thing to develop for. I think you’re onto something with theme, each of the 5 lanes for Deadlock could couple to a lore-related word. Something like, Siege, Blitz, Moor, Caldera, Fortitress (fortified fortress?). Each of the words have a distinct symbol present on the lane.
For future developers that seems like something relatively feasible. It’s a little more design work than just tossing a color on a line and calling it a day, but it seems like it could work well. It seems like it solves the core issue of color-only referencing and it can enhance the game by giving it some additional lore. It also should function effectively the same as color would, since the association is the location of the lane (1 through 5) to the symbol (previously color).
The one caveat left is the line itself, however I think for the case of Deadlock it’s actually pretty simple, it just risks being very visually busy. Each Diamond at the minimap could just have the symbol instead.
I don’t know how recent this mini-map is but each Diamond being the Symbol, for example. I do think each lane being grey wouldn’t be great, so maybe make it black/dark when empty and white when player is nearby? Similar to how it currently does it with how far you push and the lanes color.
I’m for it, what alternative are we using? Bot/mid/top works for 3 lane games because names of lanes on maps is more convoluted than a symbol, like color or shape. For example, in any game ever that uses names (even like Paladins where it has the name at the top visible of where in the map you are) I am completely useless if you tell me Broken Ridge and expect me to know which of the 5 areas of the map that could be.
I feel that is why color is so relied on, since it’s a clear (note: contrasting) visual indicator. I like the idea of using symbols though, but there would have to be a lot of good design choices to have each shape be visually distinct with a simple name without using color identifiers. I’m almost certain that’s the main reason colors are so prevalent, because they are fairly distinct and generally are monosyllabic making them easy call outs. But you’re definitely right that they aren’t ubiquitous, and so it would be cool to have good alternatives.
Hm, maybe I should buy stocks in dog fashion afterall…
Welcome to the bait and switch.
